Chapter 293 Officers

Your Chapter 293 officers are firmly committed to working hard to improve your work life. They all believe in strong advocacy for SEC employee rights and benefits, effective chapter communications, and improved relations with management to create the best working environment in the federal government. Their diverse backgrounds at the SEC and different perspectives make them a strong and effective leadership team.


President Greg Gilman, (617) 573-8948. Greg is a Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the Boston Regional Office. He has served as the Boston Regional Representative and BRO steward, and on the national negotiating teams for the Collective Bargaining Agreement, the performance appraisal process, and the BRO office move. He is an effective and successful advocate for the rights of SEC employees, and he is intimately involved in most aspects of chapter negotiations, national and local grievances, and chapter communications. Under his leadership in Boston, union membership increased to approximately 90 percent, the highest percentage in the chapter. Greg has a B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. He lives in Exeter, N.H., with his wife, Julie, and twin daughters, Meredith and Guinevere. He serves as a Steward at the Congregational Church of Exeter and as the Chairman of the Exeter Historical Society.


Vice President Veronica Lewis, (202) 551-3818. Veronica is a Disclosure Assistant in the Division of Corporation Finance. She worked for the federal government for more than 35 years, and at the SEC for 21 years. She has served as Chief Steward and Headquarters Representative, as well as on national negotiating teams dealing with compensation issues, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the performance appraisal process. Since the inception of Chapter 293, she has worked hard to ensure that all employees at the SEC are treated fairly and with respect. Veronica is always available to discuss employee concerns. She has intimate knowledge of the issues that affect SEC employees, and is committed to doing everything that she can to make the work experience of SEC employees a delight.


Treasurer Dean Suehiro, (202) 551-3384. Dean is a Senior Staff Accountant in the Division of Corporation Finance. He has served on the Labor Management Relations Committee, the national negotiating teams for the Headquarters office move, the initial Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the current CBA negotiations. Dean has worked hard behind the scenes to advocate for improved employee benefits. During his tenure as Treasurer, he has kept our chapter strong by implementing accounting controls for expenses, and ensuring that audit certifications, tax returns and labor reports are timely filed.


Secretary April Keyes, (202) 551-6309. April is a Lead Investor Specialist in the Office of Investor Education and Advocacy (OIEA). She has been a member of Chapter 293 and a Headquarters Representative since the union was established at the SEC, and she has worked at the agency for 23 years. She has two daughters, Clara and Michele.


Chief Steward Katie Nix, (202) 551-3524. Katie is a Staff Accountant in the Division of Corporation Finance. She has served as a Headquarters steward since the inception of the union. In addition to currently serving as the Chief Steward, she is a Headquarters Representative and member of the national negotiating team for the Collective Bargaining Agreement. During her 37 years of experience with the SEC, her goal has been to find solutions to problems as they arise. She has extensive experience with the EEO process and is knowledgeable about disability issues, having served as Chair of the Disability Issues Advisory Committee for many years. Katie thinks that the SEC has in house the necessary skills and good will to solve many of our problems before they become formalized in a grievance process. She invites staff members who are experiencing problems to contact her promptly.
