June 2007: During April, a number of Chapter 293 stewards traveled to Miami, Florida to attend NTEU’s annual spring training session. Stewards received extensive training on a number of issues, including: representing employees in investigative interviews, grievances, and disciplinary and adverse actions; dealing with leave issues under the Family Medical Leave Act; understanding the duty of fair representation; improving communications; participating in formal discussions between management and employees; dealing with employee appraisals; engaging in negotiations with management; and labor law and litigation updates.

The seminars and discussion sessions were helpful and informative. Participating stewards all felt that this year’s training was a great success.
