Administration’s FY 2012 Budget Request

02/15/2011

2/15/11:  Yesterday the President submitted his Fiscal Year 2012 budget proposal to Congress. This budget includes the administration’s proposals for the federal budget that begins October 1 of this year, and should not be confused with the Republican leadership’s proposal to cut $100 billion from the FY 2011 budget request, which is the subject of a separate report. Both measures would need to be approved by Congress.

The FY 2012 proposed budget assumes the federal pay freeze for FY 2012 which was enacted into law last fall. As to federal agency funding, the President’s budget would provide a total of approximately $1.4 billion for the SEC an increase of approimately $300 million over the current FY 2010 enacted level.

NTEU was glad to see that the administration’s budget did not embrace the recommendations of the National Commission on Deficit Reduction which called for changes that could result in reduced federal annuities, and proposed to change FEHBP into a voucher system. In the upcoming weeks, as we study the budget, more information is likely to surface.  NTEU is committed to fighting for fair and balanced treatment of the federal workforce.
