$100 Dues Rebate Program Extended to December 31, 2010

10/02/2010

10/1/10: NTEU has extended the $100 dues rebate program through the end of 2010. For each new member of Chapter 293 that you recruit from September 26, 2010, through December 31, 2010, the Union will continue to provide you with a $100 dues rebate. You may accept the $100 or, if you prefer, you may instead request that the Union donate the $100 to to the CFC:

Combined Federal Campaign: The mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee focused, cost-efficient, and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

Why Do We Need to Increase Our Membership This Year?

Continuing to support the Union by building our membership has never been more important. Indeed, federal employees have recently faced constant challenges, including calls for pay freezes, hiring freezes and mandatory furloughs. Just two weeks ago there was another attempt to address the nation's fiscal challenges by mandating an unpaid furlough. On Sept. 15, a new bill, H.R. 6134, was introduced in the House of Representatives which would require federal employees to take two weeks of unpaid, non-consecutive furlough days in 2011.

This furlough bill comes after a summer of negative proposals in Congress which threatened to freeze or cut federal employee pay and downsize the workforce. But mindlessly furloughing federal employees across the board will not solve the nation’s fiscal challenges. Rather, it will lead to reduced government services and damage the ability to keep our important government systems running and services intact. This is particularly true at the SEC, an agency that has been hiring new employees to help meet the challenge of protecting America's investors. Does it make any sense to reduce SEC employees' time on the job at a time when the agency needs more employees?

Help the Union protect the SEC's ability to do its job, as well as your and your family's livelihood, by increasing our strength. Recruit a friend today.
