2009 NTEU Legislative Conference

04/21/2009

In March, over 350 NTEU members took part in the 2009 NTEU Legislative Conference. Participants attended workshops, heard speeches from key policymakers , met with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and learned about issues of prime importance to NTEU’s 2009 legislative agenda.

The conference included speeches by Representative Edolphus Towns (D-NY), Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, Representative Stephen Lynch (D-MA), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Federal Workforce, Postal Services and the District of Columbia of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Senator Daniel Akaka (D-HI), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight of Government Management, the Federal Workforce and the District of Columbia of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee.

The Conference yielded many face–to-face meetings with our representatives and senators. NTEU’s legislative efforts focused on a number of priority issues, including ensuring a good pay raise this year, increasing agency funding, increasing access to FEHBP, providing paid parental leave and reinstating labor management partnerships.
