Federal Employee Pay Raise Update

09/24/2008

9/24/08: The union is pleased to report that the NTEU-backed federal employee pay raise of 3.9 percent for 2009 has been included in the continuing resolution that is on the House Floor today. As previously reported, this increase is a full percentage point higher than the President’s budget recommendation of only 2.9 percent, and follows the precedent of providing a pay raise based on the Employment Cost Index now at 3.4 percent, plus one-half percent.

Without inclusion of the 3.9% increase in the continuing resolution that is passed by Congress this week, a final decision on the federal employee pay raise will likely be deferred for months, into 2009. The measure will need to pass both Houses of Congress this week. If enacted into law, the raise will go into effect on January 1, 2009. We will keep you posted on further developments.
