NTEU Legislative Advisory Committee Meeting

01/11/2007

1/11/07: The NTEU Legislative Advisory Committee (LAC) met in Washington on Monday, January 8, 2007. NTEU legislative leaders from chapters and agencies across the country met to discuss new committee assignments on Capital Hill and NTEU’s legislative program, and to plan the 2007 National Legislative Conference.

NTEU President Colleen Kelley met with the Committee on Monday afternoon to receive their recommendation and report. The committee made several recommendations for legislative action, including continuing work on federal pay, keeping up the fight against privatization of federal jobs, increasing the affordability of federal employee health benefits, and expanding labor/management partnerships. The LAC also raised other vital issues which President Kelley and the NTEU Legislation Department will continue to press before Congress. "I deeply appreciate the work of the LAC and am convinced its planning will help make this year’s National Legislative Conference a great success," said President Kelley.

Chapter 293 Legislative Committee member Ed Manion of the Boston District Office attended the LAC conference on behalf of Chapter 293. After the event, he noted, "I am hopeful that we will be able to accomplish a higher federal pay raise this coming year, especially with the recent changes in Washington."

High on the legislative agenda for SEC employees this year is passage of legislation increasing the SEC's matching contributions to employee Thrift Savings Plan accounts.
